Doctrinal Distinctives

THE WORD OF GOD – We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, in the sense that holy men of God “were moved by the Holy Spirit” to write the very words of Scripture, and these original writings contained no errors.  The Word of God is complete as the revelation of God’s will for salvation, and the supreme and final authority in all matters to which they speak.

THE TRINTY – We believe in one God, Creator and Sustainer of all things, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that they are equal in every divine perfection, and that they execute distinct and harmonious roles in the work of creation, providence and redemption.

GOD THE FATHER – We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men and women. He hears and answers prayer, and He is the only one who saves us from sin and death through Jesus Christ.

JESUS CHRIST - We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s eternal Son, the promised Messiah, and has precisely the same nature and attributes as God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.  He is fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  We believe in Jesus’ sinless life, in His substitutionary atonement, in His bodily resurrection from the dead, in His ascension into heaven, where He is at the right hand of the Majesty on High.  We believe He is now our High Priest, Advocate, and our only way to heaven.  We look for His personal visible return from heaven for His Church.

HOLY SPIRIT – We believe in the person of the Holy Spirit. We believe in His work in conviction, regeneration, and sanctification. We believe His ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and implement Christ’s work of redeeming the lost and empowering the believer for Godly living and service.

HUMANITY – We believe God created humanity, male and female, in the image of God and free from sin.  Adam and Eve sinned when tempted by Satan and fell. Because of Adam’s sin human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God under His wrath, and spiritually dead.  Even though the wages of sin is death we believe the Holy Spirit regenerates those who repent of their sin and trust Jesus Christ as Savior.

SALVATION - We believe salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. This salvation is based upon the sovereign grace of God, was purchased by Christ on the cross, and is received through faith apart from any human merit, works, or ritual. If anyone is in Christ,  they are a new creation, old things have passed away, all things have become new.

THE CHURCH – We believe the church is body of Christ of which Jesus is the Head and is composed of all persons who through faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit.  This body expresses itself in local assemblies whose members have been baptized by immersion upon a profession of faith.  The church gathers for worship, instruction, and training in evangelism, outreach and service. The ordinances of the local church are believer’s baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper. They are, however, not to be regarded as means of salvation. We also believe in the mutual submission of Christians to each other in love.

CHRISTIAN CONDUCT – We believe that every believer should strive to glorify God in life and conduct and be blameless before the world.  God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially. We are to live out our faith, care for one another, have compassion for the poor, and seek justice for the oppressed.  With God’s Word, the Holy Spirit’s power, and the power of prayer, we are to battle the spiritual forces of evil.  In obedience to our Savior’s commission we are to spread the gospel, make disciples, and provide evidence of our faith in both word and deed.

LAST THINGS – We believe that God will create a new heaven and a new earth. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the saved and the lost, the eternal existence of all people in either heaven or hell, and in divine judgments, (rewards and punishments). We believe the redeemed will live eternally with God.
